SEO Optimisation Tips For Beginners

September 01, 2017 3 Comments
Hello! Today I will discuss about one of the most important term in Blogging, SEO. Before applying any of my tips, go through this post completely or you may not get best results. By reading today's post, you will learn-

1.What is SEO?
2.What are spiders/crawlers
3. How Crawlers Work and What are Keywords
4.Types of SEO
5.Robots.txt and Meta Tags

So, Let's start

1.Whta is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. You have to optimise your blog in such a way that it's easy to understand not only to your readers but also to Search engines. There are many ways to optimise your website/blog so it appears on the very first page of Search Results. First, you should have a structured content on your blog along with good content and then should work with different ways of SEO.
By SEO, your website can rank on the very first page of any search engine so the chances of clicks on your website will increase which ultimately increases traffic on your website. As you might be knowing, about 75% of all the traffic to any website is through search engines, when people do a query, so SEO is very important for your website.

2.What are Spiders/Crawlers?

As the name suggests Crawlers/Spiders. are robots used by different search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing to do searching on the web. The google Crawler is called Googlebot. Crawlers use different algorithms to do searching on the web. They can't judge if your blog have rich content or not nor they can crawl you images or videos, so then what should you do to make them happy? If you get ignored by the crawlers then you can't get readers. This is the reason why most of the blogs do not get good amount of readers even if they have rich content.

3.How Crawlers Work?

Crawlers have special working mechanism. They work on by matching special phrases called Keywords with your pages. If anything in your blog matches the keywords then they rank (index) your blog on the basis of relevant content.
So what are Keywords?   Keywords are any words or phrases which you search.
For example-
How Crawlers Work

Here, SEO Optimisation is the keyword. So, you should write content acoording to your selected keyword and should use it in your post. Always use the keywords in your post title.
Keywords are of two types- Long Tail Keywords and Short Tail Keywords.  Single words are called short tail keywords while Phrases are called long tail keywords. Always try to use keywords of length 2-3 words. Also, do't use too may keywords in your posts or Googlebot will blacklist your site. We will learn about this further in this post.

4.Types Of SEO

Basically, there are two types of SEO-
1.White Hat SEO
2.Black Hat SEO

(i).White Hat SEO

White hat SEO means using only leagal ways of optimising your blog like use of limited keywords, leagal backlinks, etc,. This is also known as etical SEO. You should always use White Hat SEO to optimise you blog and get indexed by crawlers. White hat SEO gives slow and steady outcomes and who haven't heared "Slow And Steady Wins The Race". If you have opted blogging because you think that you will star earning very soon then you are wrong. You will need to work hard for atleast 2-3 months for geeting some money. But once you come on correct path, you will earn a lot.

(ii).Black Hat SEO

Black Hat SEO means using illegal ways to monetise your website, also known as spamming. Googlebot keeps searching for websites which might be spamming and if found, it adds them to Blacklist. And I don't think that you would like this so keep away from Black Hat spamming.

5.Robots.txt and Meta tags

This is most important feature in SEO Optimisation.

For using these on Blogger, follow the steps below-

Open Blogger and sign in to it. In settings, find Search Preferences and click open. There you will se

Description Meta Tags

This is a new feature provided by the blogger to make SEO Optimisation easy. Here, you have to add description of your blog  use Keywords to specify your blog so as to increase your index.

Custom 404

Here comes need of your creativity. When someone types wrong address of your blog then, he is directed to this page. You should have a custom 404 page for better viewership. By default, blogger make a 404 page for your blog. But you can use HTML coding to make a new custom 404 page so as to attract more readers. You can use this feature to help readers redirect to any of pages of your blog.

4.Custom Robots.txt

This features is most important feature. However all of the above features affect your blog but, if you use it in a wrong way, your blog will be completely ignored by the search engines i.e. your blog will not appear on search results.
Getting afraid? Well, no need to afraid, I will tell you how to use it in correct way so you can enhance your search index.
Custom Robots.txt is an HTML coding used to limit the crawling of Search engines. You can use this feature to allow or disallow search engines to crawl speccific pages or posts of your blog.

In this way, you can limit crawlers not to crawl your search results or archieves as they do not add anything to your google index, instead they just slow down your blog which you would never want.

I hope your confusions would have been cleared but if not, feel free to ask in comments.
